Exhale by Alyssa King

We could learn a thing or two from our bodies.

Just look at the lungs,

how they rise and fall religiously.

Every peak represents the intake of the new, the fresh, the healthy.

Every low marks an exhale. The release of air, no longer beneficial.

Remember the lungs,

how they rise and fall ineluctably.

How both intake and release are essential to survival.

To hold your breath is to bring death to your body.

To hold your past, is to bring death to your soul.
